Causes of Hair Loss

June 7th, 2007 at 11:40pm Under Hair Loss

Hair loss is more common in men than it is in women. Approximately 50% of men experience a form of hair loss, while this is only 40% for women.

For men it begins with a receeding hair line, and then loss of hair until hair remains on the sides of the head and on the top of the head. For women it is a bit different, hair more commonly tends to thin all over instead of losing it altogether in patches.

There are surgical restoration procedures such as hair transplant surgery, or non surgical methods such as prescribed pills.

Surgical methods may be the best for both men and women, methods of which are explained in further detail on this site.

Hair Transplant Side Effects

June 7th, 2007 at 05:59pm Under Hair Transplant Surgery

You need to be aware of the possible side effects that you may encounter after your hair loss treatment. Hair thinning is a common side effect after the treatment, which is also known as shock loss. Bald patches are also common, fifty to a hundred hairs can be lost each day!

After a couple of months you should start to notice the new hair growing, but bare in mind it may be thin. This is because you are not getting more hair, just relocated hair.

Other side effects include swelling of several possible areas such as the scalp and forehead. If this becomes uncomfortable, you can ask for medication from your doctor to ease the swelling. Also be careful if your scalp starts to itch, itching it will only make it worse and cause scabs to form. You can use a moisturiser or massage shampoo in to relieve the itching.

Hair Transplant Doctor

You should arrange a visit with an experienced hair transplant doctor before committing to the procedure. The first consultation with the doctor is the most important, to make sure you get the results you desire.

A hair transplant doctor will take into account your individual situation and tailor the treatment to suit your needs.

You should find out more about the doctor and their experience in the field. Also, take into account the surgery he or she operates in by visiting the doctor’s office and his practice.

Remember to make sure that your hair transplant doctor knows what you want, and that you are confident in his work.

Hair Transplant for Women

May 20th, 2007 at 04:25pm Under Hair Transplant for Women

Hair loss is not just common in men, but women also experience it. However unlike men, instead of bald patches and a receding hairline, women’s hair tend to thin as they get older. This happens with around 20-40% of women.

Hair transplants are becoming more common with women nowadays, as any signs of loss of hair generally tend to be more important than it is for men. Hair transplant procedures can be either for transplanting hair to the top of the head from the back, or reducing overall thinness on the head.

The advantages of having a hair transplant is mainly on a cosmetic basis. Having a wig isn’t usually a very viable option since there is a possibility the wig could come off. This is why more women prefer to have hair transplants.
